Factors to Consider
When Purchasing a Laptop
When buying
a laptop, there are five important things you must consider:
·
Size
and value
·
Battery
life
·
Operating
system
·
Programs
·
RAM
There are many factors you must take into account when buying
a new laptop, size and value obviously being a major one. Because I’m a
student, it would be important for me to find a good lightweight laptop at a
reasonable price range, so that it’s affordable and also easy to carry around
with me for whenever it’s needed.
Part of the appeal of a laptop is that you can bring it
almost everywhere, so it’s important that if you are considering buying a
laptop that you take battery life into account. The larger the screen and the
faster the processor, the less life you can expect to get from a charge. Taking
this into account, I personally would need a laptop that has a longer lasting
battery life as I will need it for bringing it around college with me.
One of the harder decisions when choosing a laptop is
deciding what operating system is best suited to you. For example, I find
Windows best suited to my needs as I’m most used to using this system. This
makes college work, such as writing essays, doing assignments and researching
online a less daunting task. Although today MACs are very popular due to their
superiority in excelling at creative tasks, the compatibility issues with
peripherals such as printers, mobile phones and back-up drives etc. tend to
cancel these out for me personally. I believe MACs are better suited to courses
that are design based. It’s true that they are less susceptible to viruses than
Windows; however I am comfortable with the ease of use that comes with a
Windows operating system, its familiar and fits my lifestyle more
appropriately.
The programs available to me on whichever laptop I wish to
choose are very important. It would be very important for me to have programs such
as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint as well as needing a laptop that will
facilitate the use of Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop is important for the
multimedia module in my course.
Another important factor to consider when buying a laptop is
RAM (random access memory). This determines how fast your computer will be and
it is recommended that you accept no less than 1-gigabyte. (If you have the
cash, spring for 2-gigabytes, just to be safe, especially if you’re system is
Windows Vista, as this is uses up a lot of resources.)
This will help me choose what laptop to buy , thanks ev!
